Los Golden Rooster se crearon en 1981 avalados por la China Film Association, mientras que los Hundred Flowers se crearon en 1962 de la mano del Popular Cinema Magazine. Ambas galas separadas se unificaron en el China Golden Rooster Film Festival, lo que los convierte en los principales premios de la china continental, y su trigésimo sexta edición se celebró hace tan solo unos días. En esta ocasión la épica fantástica Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms era la cinta más nominada, estando presente en 9 categorías, y finalmente se ha llevado el premio a mejor película junto a mejor actor de reparto para Li Xuejian y varios premios técnicos. Por su parte la otra gran favorita, Hidden Blade, premia la actuación de Tony Leung Chiu-wai, mientras que mejor dirección novel ha sido para Liu Xiaoshi por Born to Fly.
